Let's Twist Again

Ten years ago, I published my first design, on the cover of Knitty’s Fall issue. Twist & Shout played with cables and bias fabric to create a garment that was fun to knit and flattering to wear – and now I’m marking its anniversary with a totally new design that remixes those elements into something very different.

Twist Again works Malabrigo Dos Tierras – an incredible, luxurious yet robust merino/alpaca blend – into sinuous cables flanked by bias ribbing to ensure a relaxed but beautiful fit. Extra-long sleeves feature more bias ribbing, and more cables that travel over saddle shoulders.

I’m particularly proud of the neckline – embraced as it is by the natural flow of the cables, and finished with a neat I-cord cast-off.

And can we talk some more about this yarn? Because it is A.Maz.Ing. You probably know I’m a sucker for luxury fibres, but I have no patience with pilling; and yes, yes, this is a source of some inner conflict. Except not with Dos Tierras. I’ve been carrying this project around on the bus for months, I’ve been ripping and reknitting, and it still looks perfect. They spun some magic in with the fibres, I swear. It’s rounded and bouncy and tough, and it still feels amazing. I picked it up in the first place (in the gorgeous Dublin shop This is Knit) because I could see the spin was something special, and I hoped it might be good for a cabled sweater. I’m so glad I did. It’s perfect.

Twist Again is available at a special launch price of €6 instead of €7.50 until the end of the week. There’s a KAL in my Ravelry group, so come and join the dance!
